Substitute for ranch dressing mix. The best way to make ranch dressing is by taste and desired thickness of dressing. I mix mayo and dressing mix first for flavor then add milk to desired thickness. It does thicken in refridgerator as it gets cold if too runny add more mayo its an easy fix.

I also like the idea of using a buttermilk powder. So when I mixed up a batch this time I did not use the saltines but added a 12 cup buttermilk powder instead. The flavor is still great.
When I mixed up the dressing just used milk instead of buttermilk since I had used the powder. This recipe is great for using in other recipes meals that ask for a package of dry Hidden Valley. Its way cheaper of course.
Hi Monica You wont get the same traditional tang of ranch dressing without using buttermilk but you could certainly try with regular milk and see how you like it. It will likely be a little thinner so you may want to use less milk or increase the sour cream. If you want to use this to make salad dressing combine 1 tablespoon mix with 1 cup mayonnaise and 1 cup milk.
